A Novel Approach To The Orthopedic Cast
The gold standard orthopedic cast has remained relatively stagnant for over 80 years. Today people are casted in a plaster of paris or
fiberglass cast that is wrapped with physician-to-physician variability. We hope to circumvent these problems with a redesigning of the orthopedic
cast, and hopefully move emergency care forwards.
Our cast design holds the potential to alleviate the difficulties associated with the application of the conventional cast. By
focusing on improving the cast and reducing the application time, physicians and doctors are able to treat multiple patients faster. To add on to this,
but providing a more conformable cast style, the patient is put in a comfortable device for the duration of the healing of their break.
Our product, the FastCast seeks to help cut down valuable physician time spent applying a cast and ensuring proper setting of the
cast while also looking out for long term wearability that is best suitable for a patient recovering. The business model we plan to follow revolves around pre-made casts
that are easily packageable and capable of long-term storage.
