Frequently Asked Questions

  1. 1. What makes the FastCast unique?

The FastCast seeks to use premade casts to shorten physician application time, while also maintaining a high degree of comfort and wearability. This is accomplished by still utilising a custom-fit bladder that conforms to the patient's arm but maintains an even pressure distribution protected by a hard shell.

  2. 2. Can I get my cast wet?

The FastCast is made of many components that are durable in water, meaning for the duration of your time in a cast, it is indeed possible to get it wet. This proves to be a large benefit over traditional plaster casts which require extreme care when handling in water due to plaster's tendency to degrade in the presence of water.

  3. 3. How durable is the FastCast?

The FastCast is quite durable, with a tensile strength of 4200 psi. This exceeds the common tensile strength of a plaster or fiberglass cast.

  4. 4. How does the FastCast help physicians?

Physician time is very valuable, and we hope that by minimising the amount of time spent applying the cast, physicians are able to get to more patients faster, are able to spend more quality time on other pressing matters such as properly advising a patients on how best to adapt to living with a cast for a few months. Furthermore, patient wearability is a big concern, and by having a custom mold that adjusts to the patient's arm, the cast is customizable patient-to-patient.

  5. 5. How expensive is the FastCast?

The FastCast hopes to come to market using manufacturers that produce the appropriate bladder with a break seal. The solutions are then comparatmentalized into two different sides by a filling process. However, due to the bulk nature of preparation and the relatively inexpensive material being used, the cast should remain well within $100. Bulk manufacturing helps with this process due to large quantities being significantly cheaper to make and assembly is an inexpensive process as well.

  6. 6. Why should I use the FastCast?

The FastCast allows for an alternative orthopedic cast treatment that is effective and comfortable, while affording time and efficiency to the physician. Furthermore, the materials are relatively inexpensive and makes use of safe and novel applications of technology.
